Who Are We?

4-H Affiliation

4-H is a youth organization designed to link students with common interests through the use of clubs. 4-H clubs cover various different topics, ranging from cutting-edge technology to community service. We decided to run our robotics organization through 4-H so that we would gain access to the wide variety of resources that 4-H has to offer, especially when it comes to their large membership base.

Background

4-H Whale Robotics was created by a group of students from a local high school that wanted to develop their passion for STEM through FIRST® competitions. FIRST® hosts various robotics competitions including FIRST® LEGO League, FIRST® Tech Challenge, and FIRST® Robotics Competition. These high school students wanted to give back to their community and provide students with the opportunities that they never received, so they partnered with 4-H to gain support and work with the community of STEM-driven students here in the Triangle.

Goals

The main goal of 4-H Whale Robotics is to provide STEM opportunities to all that are interested. We aim to equal the playing field for underprivileged and marginalized groups in STEM fields by providing education to everyone. For example, in one of our teams, Lever Up Robotics, more than 50% of the members are female. We also try to provide opportunities to those who attend schools without many robotics or STEM programs.
